Greetings,

My name is Caleb Brunson and I have been running cross country and track for Swansea High School since the 8th grade. During this time, we had a number of coaches stay in that position for no more than one year. However, though I faced these challenges with our leadership, I decided to take matters into my own hand and study the sport of running.

Then, after running in the 19 minutes for the 5K with no improvement over the course of my 9th and 10th grade years, I discovered the major training components that I was missing in my regimen. The next summer, I ran consistently and built my mileage up to 20-25 miles a week with a long run of about 7 miles. This easy running, along with some VO2 max intervals, helped me to run in the low 18s for the majority of the season and run my PR of 17:38 at our Regional meet.

I believe that the knowledge that I have gained from my own running experience and the teachings of other great coaches can greatly help other high school runners, specifically those from my own school. Therefore, I will continue to write on this blog in order to detail my training over the course of this winter as I prepare for my next track season where I hope to run a sub-4 minute mile. Also, I will include posts that highlight some of the training techniques and workouts that I use.

I hope that you will enjoy reading my blog and that it will help you to further develop your own skills as a runner.
